It looks like Power Rangers is suiting up for another big-screen adventure, with reports suggesting that Paramount and Hasbro are working on a brand-new movie reboot. According to insider Daniel Richtman, the film is in early development, with additional details from @Jinsakuu indicating this project is a total reboot, entirely separate from Netflix’s previously planned interconnected universe.
The negotiations between Hasbro and Paramount have reportedly been underway for months, and both sides have made significant progress. While there were discussions of a potential buyout of the franchise, the companies are currently collaborating to develop this new theatrical release, which is tentatively slated for late 2026. Paramount and Skydance are spearheading the project, and it seems they’re determined to avoid the missteps of the 2017 Power Rangers reboot.
What’s unclear at this point is whether the new film will revisit the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers team or draw inspiration from other eras and teams in the franchise’s history. Mighty Morphin remains the most iconic and likely choice, but fans will have to wait for further announcements.
This reboot aligns with Hasbro’s earlier statements about “exciting plans” for the Power Rangers franchise, and the new movie seems to be a priority for the toy and entertainment giant. Following a quieter phase for the brand after its 30th-anniversary celebration—which included Power Rangers Cosmic Fury and the Once & Always special—this announcement signals a fresh chapter for the Rangers.
Hasbro also recently handed the Power Rangers toy license to Playmates Toys starting in 2025. Playmates and Hasbro have expressed optimism about the partnership, promising innovative and exciting products for both collectors and new fans.
“We are honored to work with Hasbro on the reimagination of this iconic franchise’s toy line,” said Karl Aaronian, SVP of Marketing for Playmates Toys. “Playmates and Hasbro speak the same toy language and share a passion for Power Rangers, a multi-generational phenomenon that has stood the test of time.”
While Hasbro maintains oversight of the brand, Playmates will bring their expertise to create a new collecting and play experience, fueling fan excitement as they await more news about the reboot.
