It looks like the Bat-Signal will be staying dark a little longer. “The Batman Part II,” directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson, has been delayed yet again, now set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. This marks the third release date shift, following previous slots in October 2026 and October 2025.

Deadline broke the news, which also revealed other reshuffling in Hollywood. The original October 2026 release date for The Batman Part II is now taken by an Alejandro González Iñárritu project starring Tom Cruise. Meanwhile, Pattinson’s other film, “Mickey 17,” is moving up to March 7, 2025, and Ryan Coogler’s vampire movie “Sinners,” starring Michael B. Jordan, will release on April 18, 2025.

The delay isn’t exactly shocking. Rumors had been swirling about the pushback, with sources pointing to James Gunn, DC Studios’ co-president, waiting on a completed script from Reeves. Gunn seemed unconcerned about overlapping dates with the recently announced “Clayface” film, written by Mike Flanagan, slated for September 11, 2026. “Clayface and Reeves’ Batman are in different universes,” Gunn stated, brushing off concerns about any potential conflict.

According to sources, Reeves is meticulously working on the script for The Batman Part II, unwilling to move forward until everything is just right. “He’s being very protective and meticulous,” one source noted. Add in DC’s broader changes under James Gunn and Peter Safran, and the path forward for Reeves’ Batman remains complicated.

Originally, Reeves’ Batman was meant to stand apart as part of DC’s Elseworlds saga. A new Batman was supposed to debut in “The Brave and the Bold,” but that project, directed by Andy Muschietti, appears to be on hold as well. Speculation is now swirling about whether Pattinson’s Batman might join the broader DC Universe, but nothing has been confirmed.

With The Batman Part II now potentially taking five years to arrive, Warner Bros. and DC are likely questioning whether they can afford to go a decade without Batman gracing the big screen. For now, Reeves has another year to perfect the film, and fans can only hope it lives up to the legacy of “The Dark Knight.”
