Donald Trump’s legal woes just got a lot heavier as a federal court upheld the $5 million judgment awarded to E. Jean Carroll in 2023.

The United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled Monday, affirming the jury’s decision that found Trump liable for sexually abusing and defaming Carroll. The court also denied Trump’s request for a new trial, stating there was no abuse of discretion by the trial judge and that the evidence against Trump was overwhelmingly strong.

Carroll originally sued Trump for battery and defamation, claiming he sexually abused her in a Manhattan department store dressing room in 1996. While the jury did not find Trump liable for rape, they did hold him responsible for sexual abuse and defamation. Adding to the former president’s troubles, the jury also ordered him to pay Carroll an additional $83.3 million for defamation—a separate judgment he is currently appealing.

Trump, as expected, remains defiant. His spokesperson, Steven Cheung, called the lawsuits part of ongoing “Witch Hunts” against the former president, promising to continue the appeals process. “The American People have re-elected President Trump with an overwhelming mandate, and they demand an immediate end to the political weaponization of our justice system,” Cheung said. “We look forward to uniting our country in the new administration as President Trump makes America great again.”

E. Jean Carroll’s attorney, Roberta Kaplan, expressed her satisfaction with the ruling, telling TMZ, “Both E. Jean Carroll and I are gratified by today’s decision. We thank the Second Circuit for its careful consideration of the parties’ arguments.”

As Trump gears up for more legal battles and Carroll continues to seek justice, the saga between the two is far from over. The political and legal implications remain significant, with the case serving as a lightning rod for debates over accountability and the weaponization of lawsuits.

What do you think about the court’s decision to uphold the judgment? Does this ruling represent justice served, or do you agree with Trump’s “Witch Hunt” narrative? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
